Christian Service

The Christian Service Office works to form young men into faithful disciples of Christ in the Ignatian tradition. The mission of the Society of Jesus, in the service of the faith and the promotion of justice points directly at the questions that St. Ignatius poses in the Spiritual Exercises: What have I done for Christ? What am I doing for Christ? What w生病了 I do for Christ? Key to this is the personal encounter with Christ at the margins and creating a culture of dialogue and peace-building to discern a Christian response and live the Gospel courageously. The program encourages students to serve God in our brothers and sisters at the margins, 穷人, 岁的, 禁用, 生病了, 在监狱里, or in any way afflicted and oppressed.

Charity and justice in the form of service and advocacy should become the habit of a graduate of a Jesuit school. Our program offers an opportunity for students to grow in faith and become men of virtue, “Men for and with Others.” Experiences of service and advocacy with and for those who are under-resourced and oppressed help form young people in Christian solidarity as they search for meaning and direction for their lives.
The goal of service at Belen Jesuit is to promote experiences that lead students to encounter God in the other, to foster a transformation of the heart, and nurture a deeper awareness of the call to live for “others” in charity and justice. In the context of an education inspired by Ignatian principles, students are guided to share generously the gifts of their love and talents and especially the gift of being present to another in need. 这样做的时候, the student is immersed in the global and local community, expands their perspective of the world, and can broaden their
experience of God’s love.

Belen Jesuit Preparatory School was founded in 1854 in Havana, Cuba by Queen Isabel II of Spain.  The task of educating students was assigned to the priests and brothers of the Society of Jesus (the Jesuits), whose teaching tradition is synonymous with academic excellence and 精神上的 discipline.  In 1961, the new political regime of Cuba confiscated the School property and expelled the Jesuit faculty.  The School was re-established in Miami the same year, and over the next decade, continued to grow.  今天, Belen Jesuit sits on a 30-acre site in western Dade County, only minutes away from downtown Miami.
